Captain/MVP Plays

This section will highlight my 3 favorite Captain (DK) and MVP (FD) plays.

Note: For DK, picking a player as your captain means that they will receive 1.5x bonus on their normal points, but their price will increase by 1.5x as well. For FD, the MVP receives a 2x bonus without any adjustment to their price.

2) Kawhi Leonard ($17,100 DK and $14,500)

Leonard has only scored 23 and 21 in the first 2 games of the series, and if there’s ever a time that he’s going to need to put the Clippers on his back, it’s going to be tonight. They’re down 0-2, so this game is an absolute must-win, and I think LAC should be feeling pretty confident given the fact that they came back from 0-2 in the last series as well. Kawhi definitely isn’t gonna go down without a fight, so I could see him taking tons of shots tonight.

3) Jordan Clarkson ($12,300) *if Conley sits*

If Conley sits tonight, Clarkson will continue to have the green light off the bench for the Jazz. He got hot last game (and had 24), and I could see him taking even more shots tonight if Mitchell doesn’t take as many as he did in games 1 and 2. If Conley plays, I would be a little less excited about Clarkson, because he would probably see fewer shots and minutes as a result of Joe Ingles being pushed back to the bench. I think there’s a huge drop off after Kawhi and Mitchell, though, so I would definitely suggest getting one of them into your lineup.

 Dark Horse Plays

This section will provide you with some value towards the lower end of the price spectrum. These guys will also be low ownership plays that give you a good chance to differentiate your lineup from the field!

2) Patrick Beverley ($2,400 DK and $7,000 FD)

Beverley looks like he’s going to get minutes ahead of Rondo in this series, so the fact that he’s cheaper on DK makes him a real steal tonight. He played 21 minutes last game, and he could play even more tonight if Reggie Jackson doesn’t absolutely go off like he did last game. He’ll be able to get open threes if he’s in the game, and it’s not like he can’t hit them occasionally, so I think the ceiling for him is pretty solid given his price tag. Of course there is a risk here, but that’s no different from any of these low priced guys.

3) Ivica Zubac ($5,100 DK and $9,000 FD)

Zubac only played 14 minutes last game, but it was because he got in some early foul trouble. He’s actually been pretty solid while he’s been out there, and if he can stay away from picking up early fouls on Gobert, he can actually have a really good fantasy night tonight. Obviously if the Clippers go back to their small ball starting lineup, you shouldn’t play Zubac tonight, but assuming he starts, I’ll definitely like him tonight.

Lineup Construction Strategy

This section will highlight some game-specific trends and adjustments. Remember, the playoffs force teams to beat their opponent 4 TIMES, meaning game 1 looks A LOT different than game 7 most of the time.

Since the Clippers are down 0-2, it’s very much an unknown what they’ll do tonight in terms of starting lineups, rotations, and minutes. Ty Lue has been known to make some serious adjustments throughout the course of a series, and I could see him changing things up again tonight. He’s been starting Zubac, but perhaps he’ll go back to the small-ball lineup tonight because playing big clearly hasn’t worked thus far. Furthermore, he’s been going to Beverley instead of Rondo, which was a definite surprise; will he continue to do that, or will he go back to playoff Rondo? I say all of this to make the point that I’ll probably go with a 4:2 Jazz lineup tonight, because I think it’s fairly risky to go with many of these Clippers guys tonight, especially most of the bench.
