Showdown Blueprint!

(MIL vs. ATL)

This section will provide you with my 3 favorite captain plays, my 3 favorite dark horse plays, and game-specific lineup construction strategy!

Captain/MVP Plays

This section will highlight my 3 favorite Captain (DK) and MVP (FD) plays.

Note: For DK, picking a player as your captain means that they will receive 1.5x bonus on their normal points, but their price will increase by 1.5x as well. For FD, the MVP receives a 2x bonus without any adjustment to their price.

1. Khris Middleton ($10,000 DK and $14,000 FD)

Middleton absolutely went off in game 3, and I think he’ll play off that great performance tonight in game 4. He tends to be a guy that when he’s playing well, he continues to play well and when he’s playing poorly, he really gets in a rut. After the best performance of his playoff career, I think his confidence will be at an all time high, and I think he’ll have another great performance tonight, both scoring and rebounding the ball.

2. Giannis Antetokounmpo ($12,000 DK and $16,000 FD)

Giannis has been incredibly consistent, and I think if you don’t have him in your lineup, you’re at risk of not cashing. Another reason I like Giannis is that Jrue hasn’t been great this series, and Trae is coming off an ankle injury, so I’m definitely a bit concerned about virtually every high priced guy besides Giannis. Giannis is an incredibly safe play, with obvious potential to have a 60-70+ fantasy point game on any given night.

3. Kevin Huerter ($7,000 DK and $11,000 FD)

With Trae Young nursing an ankle injury, the Hawks are going to have to rely on their secondary playmakers to make plays and score for themselves. Kevin Huerter has proven that he can be that guy; he’s able to get in the lane and he’s big and strong, so he can make cross court passes with ease. I love Huerter’s game, and I think he’ll step up tonight with an injured Trae Young.

Dark Horse Plays

This section will provide you with some value towards the lower end of the price spectrum. These guys will also be low ownership plays that give you a good chance to differentiate your lineup from the field!

1. Lou Williams ($2,800 DK and $7,000 FD)

As I’ve mentioned, I think the Hawks will have to find some more playmaking from players not named Trae Young, especially now that Young is battling an injury and might not be himself. Lou is someone who can get hot at any moment, and if he hits a couple shots early, he can really get on a roll. At his ridiculously low price tag, I think the ceiling potential is really good. High risk, high reward here.

2. Bobby Portis ($4,400 DK and $8,500 FD)

In only 17 minutes, Portis put up 15-4-1 in game 3. I just don’t understand why he wouldn’t play more minutes after two great performances, so hopefully he’ll see a larger workload tonight. Even if he plays less than 20 minutes minutes, he is always quite productive in those minutes, so I think you can feel solid about both his floor and ceiling at his price tag on both sites.

3. Pat Connaughton ($3,200 DK and $7,500 FD)

Connaughton continues to play big minutes, so I think he makes some sense as a really cheap play tonight. If you look at some of the other guys around him on both sites, they’re bench players who would be lucky to see 18 minutes. Pat is locked in for around 30 minutes, he rebounds the basketball, and he can always hit some threes if given the chance. I like his floor a lot tonight.

Lineup Construction Strategy

This section will highlight some game-specific trends and adjustments. Remember, the playoffs force teams to beat their opponent 4 TIMES, meaning game 1 looks A LOT different than game 7 most of the time.

The biggest development in this game 3 is the fact that Trae Young is questionable. I fully expect him to play, but it concerns me that he won’t be himself. He relies SO much on his quickness (a lot more than most NBA players), so losing just a half a step can be really detrimental to his game. I definitely like some of the guys on the Hawks who will have to step up if Trae is hurt (Huerter, Lou, etc), but I also like both Khris and Giannis, because I feel much more confident about them than Jrue, Trae, and Capela/Collins. Not a lot of sure things tonight, so I think you have to get Giannis into your lineup, who’s one of the only things you can count on tonight.
