QUICK HITTERS (6/27)
- Today's main slate features 1 game. Nobody is on a back to back.
- As of this writing, the game with the highest and lowest over/under is ATL v MIL at 224 points.
(MIL vs. ATL)
This section will provide you with my 3 favorite captain plays, my 3 favorite dark horse plays, and game-specific lineup construction strategy!
This section will highlight my 3 favorite Captain (DK) and MVP (FD) plays.
Note: For DK, picking a player as your captain means that they will receive 1.5x bonus on their normal points, but their price will increase by 1.5x as well. For FD, the MVP receives a 2x bonus without any adjustment to their price.
1. Giannis Antetokounmpo ($12,000 DK and $16,500 FD)
Giannis has gotten whatever he’s wanted in games 1 and 2, both from his own creation and playing off of his teammates. I think how he’s played is super promising for how he will continue to play in this series; the ways that he has been scoring are very sustainable and he will continue to be very aggressive. I love Giannis tonight, especially because Jrue and Khris have been really bad on the road.
2. Trae Young ($11,200 DK and $16,000 FD)
Trae Young was candid about his poor game 2 performance, and I really think he’s the type of player that will respond super well to that tonight. He’ll be super aggressive early and often, and now that he knows how the Bucks are going to defend the pick and roll, he’ll be able to adjust to it. Trae is back at home, and he had his worst game of the playoffs in game 3, so I really like his chances to bounce back tonight.
3. Bobby Portis ($3,200 DK and $8,000 FD)
As you all know, I’m usually a fan of making a way higher priced player my Captain/MVP play, but Portis will be a potential exception in some of my lineups tonight. He was the first guy off the bench for the Bucks in game 2, and he always seems to be super productive when he plays decent minutes. I think he’ll play some 5 tonight and will have a really good chance at a ceiling game, in which case he could smash his price tag out of the park.
Dark Horse Plays
This section will provide you with some value towards the lower end of the price spectrum. These guys will also be low ownership plays that give you a good chance to differentiate your lineup from the field!
1. Bobby Portis ($3,200 DK and $8,000 FD)
I know. I wrote about Portis as a potential Captain/MVP play, but I’m putting him in this section as well just to make the point that he’s probably going to be in every single of my lineups tonight. I love the potential ceiling you get with his ceiling, and I also think his minutes look quite promising tonight, so he’s going to be a lock for me at either the utility or captain spot.
2. Brook Lopez ($6,200 DK and $11,000 FD)
Lopez continued to start and play a lot of minutes in game 2, so I feel fairly confident about his minutes in game 3. Also, since Capela spends the majority of his time defending Giannis, Lopez ends up with a size mismatch, which he’s been looking to take advantage of more and more in the paint. I think Lopez is someone the Bucks could look to for more scoring tonight.
3. Lou Williams ($1,800 DK and $7,500 FD)
This is obviously a hot take, but I could see Lou Williams having a good game at any moment this series; without a healthy Bogdan, ATL is desperately needing a second scorer/playmaker, and I think Lou can be that at times tonight. If he hits a couple shots early, he’ll probably stay in and will probably continue to hit shots.
Lineup Construction Strategy
This section will highlight some game-specific trends and adjustments. Remember, the playoffs force teams to beat their opponent 4 TIMES, meaning game 1 looks A LOT different than game 7 most of the time.
I think both stars perform really well tonight, and here’s why. In terms of Giannis, he’s gotten whatever he’s wanted in this series, and I think he’ll be especially good tonight considering Jrue and Khris have been pretty bad away from home in these playoffs. In terms of Trae, I think he’ll respond very well to his team’s subpar performance in game 2. They’re going back home, and Trae has shown an amazing ability to bounce back from tough performances; he’s got incredible mental strength. So, I’ll try to get both of those guys in my lineup, and I also really like Portis. Then, I’ll have to get some super cheap guys, one of whom will likely be Lou Williams.
Showdown Ownership for DraftKings and Fanduel
Note: The scoring is the same for DK Classic and Showdown, so the points projections are the same and can be found in the downloadable datasheet above.
Each days newsletter will be posted no later than 2 hours before the main slate of games tips-off, see you tomorrow!
